Steve
Reeves has been Principal Bass with the Melbourne Symphony
Orchestra since 1989. Prior to joining the MSO, he held
principal positions with Orchestra Victoria and The
West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
As a soloist, he has appeared with the Melbourne Symphony,
the Academy of Melbourne, Adelaide Chamber Orchestra
and the Hunter Orchestra, and has given recitals in
Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. He presented
recitals and worked with the Young Bassists programs
at the 2001 and 2003 International Society of Bassists
Conventions in Indianapolis and Richmond Virginia.
He studied with Gary Karr at the Hartt School of Music,
Eugene Levinson at Julliard, Knut Guettler in Oslo and
Anthony Woodrow in Amsterdam.
Steve teaches bass at the Victorian College of the Arts.
He has tutored for the Australian Youth Orchestra, National
Music Camp, the first Australian National Bass Conference,
coordinated a lower strings program for the Australian
National Academy of Music, and conducted masterclasses
in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Newcastle and
Fort Worth.
